いいき【好い気】

～な 1 〔ひとりよがりな〕 complacent; self-satisfied; self-assured.

●自分ひとりの力で成功したと思っているんだからいい気なものさ. How conceited! The way he acts you'd think he'd done it all by himself.

・われわれの気遣いも知らないでいい気なものだ. He is so wrapped up in himself as to be totally unaware of [oblivious to] our worries.

2 〔得意〕 vain; vainglorious; conceited; proud; self-complacent.

●いい気になる be vain [self-conceited, self-complacent, stuck-up]; be [feel] elated 《with…》; be puffed up 《by [with]…》; puff oneself up 《with…》

・うまくいったのでいい気になっている. He is elated with success. | Success has swelled his head.

・あまりほめるといい気になるからよしなさい. Don't praise him too much―he'll become swellheaded [conceited].

・お前はちょっとほめるとすぐいい気になる. You receive a little compliment and right away your head starts to swell.

・彼はいい気になってしゃべり続けた. He went [rattled] on at his own sweet will.

・僕がおとなしくしているからといっていい気になるな. Don't try my patience.

・人が親切にしてやればいい気になっている. He presumes too much upon my kindness. | I have been so kind to him that [and] he takes it for granted.
